Unlocking Interview Success: Two Essential Mindset Tips
Written on
Preparing for Interviews with Confidence
Feeling anxious before an interview is completely natural, even when you're ready. Personally, I tend to be quite sensitive to stress. However, I’ve learned a couple of affirmations that help calm my nerves before facing an interviewer.
Instead of saying "Don’t be afraid," I focus on a positive mantra: "You've got this." My brain doesn't respond well to negativity. I recall an incident with my three-year-old niece who was upset. When adults told her "Don't cry," it only escalated her tears. But when I redirected her attention to a paper frog I was crafting, her focus shifted, and she began to calm down.
Adults often react similarly; we struggle with negative phrasing. Telling yourself not to be scared might inadvertently amplify those fears. So, remind yourself: "You’ve got this." After all, you’ll only meet this interviewer once—why not make it a memorable encounter?
You might be thinking, "Are you suggesting I might fail?" Yes and no. I genuinely wish for your success, but it’s also wise to prepare for the possibility of setbacks. By managing your expectations and accepting the chance of failure, you'll feel more at ease. Embrace the opportunity to share your thoughts confidently, regardless of the outcome.
