Chapter 1: The Quest for the Tallest Person
Who holds the title of the tallest person in the world? A remarkable 29-year-old from Ghana may soon make history by surpassing previous records.
Tall individuals have captivated researchers for ages, with the previous height record set at 272 cm. However, a new contender stands at nearly 2.9 meters!

According to the “Guinness World Records,” the tallest living person is Sultan Kösen from Mardin, Turkey, born in 1982. Up until the age of ten, he grew at a typical rate, but thereafter, his height increased dramatically. Currently, he stands at 251 cm, having surpassed the previous record holder, Bao Xishun from Mongolia, who is 236 cm tall.
However, reports from the BBC suggest that this record may soon be challenged. There exists a man in Africa measuring almost 2.9 meters!
Section 1.1: Awuche - The Giant of Ghana
Sulemana Abdul Samed, also known as Awuche, is a 29-year-old resident of Ghana. Recent measurements conducted at a northern hospital indicate he could be as tall as 289 cm, although the accuracy of this measurement is in question due to the challenges of measuring such a tall individual.
Awuche's stature is compounded by health issues, as he suffers from Marfan syndrome, a condition that results in elongated limbs. His spine is deformed, leading to a hump on his back, and he also has a heart defect. Measurements performed by a BBC journalist suggested that he may be shorter than Sultan Kösen, to which Awuche responded, “That’s okay, I’m still growing.” His rapid growth commenced seven years ago when he was living in Accra, Ghana’s capital. Aspiring to be a driver, Awuche faced health challenges that led him back to his village, where he now runs a small business.
Chapter 2: The Tallest Man in History
If the measurements are validated, Sulemana Abdul Samed will etch his name in history. The previously tallest verified individual was Robert Wadlow, an American from Alton, Illinois, who lived from 1918 to 1940.
By the age of 8, Wadlow had already surpassed his father in height. Upon completing school, he stood over 2.5 meters tall. At the time of his death, he measured 272 cm and weighed approximately 199 kg. His gigantism stemmed from an overactive pituitary gland that regulates growth hormone production. Wadlow gained fame by touring with revues and promoting shoes. Had he received modern medical treatment, he might have lived longer; tragically, he succumbed to an infection that arose from a minor injury due to a lack of sensation in his feet. He passed away at 22 years old, and without his health issues, he might have reached over 300 cm.
Section 2.1: Historical Record Holders
The runner-up in historical heights is John Rogan, an African-American from Tennessee who lived from 1868 to 1905, measuring over 267 cm but weighing only 79 kg. Due to his height, he was unable to stand or walk unaided and used a goat-pulled carriage for mobility.
The third tallest individual was John F. Carroll (264 cm), an American who lived from 1932 to 1969. His growth spurt began at 16 and continued until his death, during which he faced various medical conditions, including spinal deformities.
Finn Väinö Myllirinne (251 cm) ranks fourth. Living from 1909 to 1963, he was in good health, served in the military as the tallest soldier in Finnish history, and even made television appearances.

An Enduring Legacy
The destruction of ancient sacred Aboriginal drawings in Australia’s Koonalda Cave, dating back over 20,000 years, serves as a grim reminder of the fragility of history.
