A Personal Perspective on the Luck of Friday the 13th

Written on

The Unfortunate Thursdays

The experience of Thursday the 12th has been consistently negative for me throughout my life. On this day, I have often faced unfortunate events, particularly involving my pets, primarily fish.

During my childhood, Thursday the 12th was a day when bullying intensified, and I vividly remember a significant argument with an ex during high school on this very date. Just yesterday, on the 12th, I discovered a deceased bird in my fairy garden, visible from my bedroom. It appeared to have been attacked, which was disheartening given my efforts to create a sanctuary for birds, complete with a charming pink bird feeder and a birdbath, along with suet to attract them in winter.

Finding a bird that had met a tragic end in a space meant for peace is far from comforting. Interestingly, my mother shares similar sentiments about Thursday the 12th, often expressing her grievances about this day throughout my life.

Experiencing the Joy of Friday the 13th

In stark contrast, Friday the 13th has consistently brought me joy. This day is often filled with positive surprises, including unexpected gifts.

For instance, during middle school, I once received a plush toy I had planned to purchase, free of charge, from Borders—a bookstore that is now a memory. My mother would always reassure me after the misfortunes of Thursday the 12th, reminding me that the following day would be much brighter, as Friday the 13th follows.

Today has been particularly pleasant; I landed a simple substitute teaching job at a high school. Although I lack qualifications for this role, it has proven to be an easy day with ample time for writing, and I also enjoyed complimentary meals.

The reasons behind my consistent good fortune on these two contrasting days remain a mystery to me, but thankfully, they haven’t caused any significant disruptions in my life. I hold out hope that one day I will uncover the reasoning behind this unusual pattern.
