Making Life Changes: 3 Essential Tips for Decision-Making

Chapter 1: The Decision to Change
Recently, I embarked on a significant journey, leaving my home country to start anew across the globe. Many have inquired about how I came to such a monumental decision. In this blog post, I’ll outline three straightforward tips to assist you in making any life choice.
Before settling on any decision—whether it’s as trivial as what to order at a restaurant or as significant as choosing a life partner—reflect on these three fundamental questions. Regardless of whether your decision seems minor or critical, considering these factors will guide you toward the best outcome for yourself.
Ask yourself these pivotal questions before making any choice:
- Is this worth my time?
- Is this worth my energy?
- Is this worth my money?
Let me illustrate how I utilized this approach when I decided to move to the USA, demonstrating its real-world application for your own decisions.
You may already know that I reached a point where I aspired to create the life of my dreams in the USA. However, for those unfamiliar with my journey, here’s a brief recap: I felt directionless and unfulfilled, prompting me to seek avenues for happiness. I engaged in several self-improvement workshops, starting with NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) training, which helped me identify my true passions: being an inspirational speaker, running a business, and living in the USA.

In light of this, I was determined to change my life and had reached a point where I was willing to do whatever it took to follow my heart.
I posed the question, “Is it worth my time to live in the USA?” At 25, I felt it was the ideal moment to pursue something I had dreamt about for years. I believed I had ample time to acquire skills that would be invaluable for my personal and professional growth. Thus, my decision to move to the USA passed the first test.
Next, I asked, “Is it worth my energy to relocate to the USA instead of staying in Turkey for my stable job?” I contemplated whether gaining more experience in my current role was more beneficial than making a sudden career shift. This was challenging, as I was still new to entrepreneurship. Despite my strong desire to follow my dreams, I wrestled with the cultural beliefs that had been instilled in me. Shifting these ingrained beliefs is never straightforward, but it is achievable. Eventually, I reached a point where I felt completely ready—energetically—for my decision. I owe much of this clarity to the NLP and coaching sessions I received.
Now, let’s address the crucial element: MONEY. In today’s global economy, financial considerations are paramount when making decisions. I asked myself, “Is it worth my savings to invest in this dream of living in the USA?” As a Human Resources Specialist in an international firm in Bursa, Turkey, I had managed to save nearly all my income over three years. I was fortunate to live with my parents, allowing me to accumulate a substantial amount.
However, it was daunting to spend my hard-earned savings on something with an uncertain outcome. Reflect on your first paycheck—was it easy to spend, or did you second-guess every purchase? For me, it was a challenge, but taking that leap actually empowered me to make my own decisions and reject naysayers. Having that financial cushion made me feel strong and ready to pursue my dreams. Ultimately, the answer to whether it was worth it was a resounding YES!
BONUS TIP: How to make emotional peace with your decisions and avoid regret?
While the outcome of any decision is inherently unpredictable, remind yourself of this: whenever I choose to act, I affirm that I possess the time, energy, and resources to do so.
Here’s a powerful affirmation I still rely on: “I accept whatever comes from this choice and the journey I’m about to embark on. I trust that a greater plan exists for me, even when things deviate from my expectations. I’m prepared for challenges and open to miracles. I desire this, and I own my decision completely.”
