Chapter 1: Overview of macOS Sonoma Beta Testing
In this analysis, I will share my candid impressions of macOS Sonoma following the latest Beta update.
Pros and Cons of macOS Sonoma
To provide a clear perspective, I'll categorize my experiences into advantages and drawbacks, ultimately expressing my hopes for the official launch on September 26, 2023.
#### Advantages
One standout feature is the stunning login wallpaper, which appears to be drone footage of a vineyard in Sonoma. This image brings me immense joy each day at work; it’s undeniably one of the most delightful upgrades I’ve encountered.
Additionally, I have come to appreciate the revamped Print System Settings window. Initially, I was frustrated with Apple for altering something that previously functioned well. However, the ability to view updates and manage the print queue in this new interface has proven beneficial, even though it required some adjustment on my part.
#### Disadvantages
Regrettably, the benefits are somewhat limited. During the Beta phase, several colleagues experienced significant glitches, with one even needing to revert to macOS Ventura. Issues like screen freezes and unresponsive keyboards were common, though I was fortunate not to encounter these problems myself with my M1 MacBook.
Another aspect I found unappealing was the small login password box located at the bottom of the screen. Initially, I didn’t understand the design choice, but I recognize now that it complements the magnificent aerial vineyard shot.
Moreover, the color palette of the macOS Sonoma wallpaper appears somewhat dull and disjointed to me. I would struggle to see that every day, but the larger Sonoma Vineyard wallpaper at the top of this article is a joy to behold.
It’s unfortunate that a similar unattractive color scheme has been applied to the macOS logo in System settings, which I intend to avoid if possible.
Final Thoughts
I look forward to exploring the new features and changes I haven’t mentioned here, as my testing perspective was primarily from an IT technician’s viewpoint. I wish for the macOS logo to feature a nature image, though I suspect that’s unlikely.
Overall, the system feels robust, and I am eager to see how the official release unfolds on September 26, 2023. Thank you for joining me on this journey!
