Building a Million Dollar Writing Business: My Proven Steps
Written on
Chapter 1: The Journey to a 7-Figure Business
How does one successfully establish a seven-figure business while maintaining sanity? I’ll be upfront: my monthly earnings typically range from $10,000 to $20,000. However, the approach I take differs significantly from that of a full-fledged million-dollar business. It transcends mere processes; it involves cultivating the right mindset, crafting high-value offers, and embracing failures as stepping stones.
In this guide, I’ll share the strategies I employ to build a seven-figure enterprise.
Section 1.1: Crafting High-Ticket Offers
To attract your audience, you need to develop high-ticket offers that resonate with their needs. This is not simply about conjuring up ideas from thin air. For instance, in my copywriting business, I’ve specialized in creating comprehensive packages for health tech brands, focusing on landing pages and emails under the name "Built to Convert."
Each month, I successfully sell these packages for prices ranging from $7,500 to $17,500. My journey toward realizing the potential of packaging my services began when I sought coaching from Joanna Wiebe. Prior to that, I undervalued my services, charging mere pennies instead of thousands.
I've refined my approach to designing offers that attract clients rather than making random pitches.
Section 1.2: The Importance of Sales
Sales are the lifeblood of any business. In copywriting, sales are ingrained in every word you write. You’re constantly engaging readers with a narrative that promises transformation or benefits tailored to their interests.
In the past, I was disheartened by lost deals. However, I learned the importance of moving forward and not getting bogged down by prospects who aren’t the right fit. There are countless potential clients eager for your services.
To master sales, I’ve implemented strategies like:
- Sending out 300 messages on LinkedIn, resulting in 10–12 weekly meetings.
- Crafting personalized cold emails to ignite conversations with leads.
- Recording sales calls to identify areas for improvement.
Chapter 2: Building Courses and Cohorts
Last year, I launched a $1 landing page course, which attracted 206 buyers. The thrill of making a sale is unparalleled, but my initial experience was discouraging as I found myself in the red. I was spending $99 monthly on a course platform while generating only about $20. It became clear that being in the negative wouldn’t pave my way to millionaire status.
Then, life got hectic (I welcomed my fifth child), and client work took precedence, causing me to neglect my courses and cohorts. Now, I’m back in the game, developing writing and copywriting courses and preparing for a new cohort next month. I’m also offering one-on-one consulting sessions, all while ensuring I carve out time for these ventures.
I’m learning what resonates with my audience and continuously improving my offerings.

Section 2.1: Shifting Mindsets on Pricing
Initially, I was hesitant to quote clients prices like $2,500. Then, $5,000 felt daunting, followed by $10,000, and eventually $15,000. Fear is a common barrier when starting out.
Overcoming this fear requires repetition. Now, when I present my copywriting package priced at $10,000, I communicate it confidently because I understand its value.
My fears around pricing, creating content, and sharing videos were mental hurdles until I recognized that stepping outside my comfort zone was essential for growth.
Failure isn’t about not trying; it’s about moving forward by learning from your experiences. That’s the essence of building a seven-figure business—taking risks and learning from them.
