Achieving Your Writing Goals: A Guide for Medium Authors

Chapter 1: The Importance of Setting Writing Goals
Establishing goals is vital, particularly for writers on Medium. Have you ever found yourself writing without a clear objective? That was my experience when I first began my journey. However, I’ve since defined specific goals that help guide my efforts and evaluate my progress.
Here are my objectives for June and July!
Increasing Engagement
Engagement plays a more significant role on Medium than many realize. From my observations, it is a crucial element for achieving success. Therefore, my focus is on enhancing my engagement levels. More specifically, I plan to dedicate at least 30 minutes each day to read, comment on, and clap for posts. My target is to engage with around ten articles daily, depending on their length. Building a strong community starts with meaningful interaction!
Setting Attainable Financial Goals
Many writers, including myself, aspire to join the $100 club. I aim to reach $100 in earnings over the next few months. While my earnings are gradually increasing, reaching that $100 mark feels ambitious. Instead, I’ll set my sights on $80 by the end of July as a more realistic target. Remember to establish a timeline for your goals to help maintain your focus!
My Surprising Earnings Experience
Initially shocked by my earnings in May, I later found joy in the progress I made.
Adjusting My Publishing Strategy
Since my start on Medium, I have consistently published one to three articles daily. Sounds overwhelming, right? Thanks to a helpful suggestion from Alvin T., I’ll be modifying this routine to prevent burnout. Instead of averaging two daily posts, I’ll alternate my output, sometimes posting just one article, while other days may see up to three. Regardless, you can expect a fresh story from me every day.
Enhancing My Editing Skills
As many of you know, I’ve recently joined New Writers Welcome as an editor. The learning curve has been significant; editing involves much more than I anticipated. I’m eager to gain more experience and will try to carve out time for editing during the week, although balancing this with my other responsibilities can be challenging.
Takeaway: The Necessity of Goals
Setting goals is essential. If you are new to Medium, consider why you started and what you hope to accomplish. A clear objective helps maintain your focus. Remember, your goals are flexible; if you find them unrealistic, feel free to adjust them. You control this process!
By defining your goals, you’ll likely feel more motivated and productive upon achieving them. Do you have any writing goals on Medium right now? I’d love to hear about them!
Since joining Medium, I’ve been earning approximately $40 monthly. This figure is gradually increasing. If you want to enhance your engagement and earnings, think about subscribing to Medium for unlimited access to articles at just $5 a month. You’ll also be supporting writers like myself, and I’ll receive a small commission. Happy reading!
